About your teacher:

My love of surfing puts me on the beach where I appreciate all its natural beauty. I've enjoyed collecting shells, driftwood, sea glass, and unusual sculpted rocks for many decades. I was inspired to create beach art items with all my treasures once I retired.

I joined Carpinteria Creative Arts & Crafts eleven years ago, and have been a vendor at the weekly Farmer's Market.

Make your own Sea Glass or Beach Stone Pendant

Students will create their own pendant from a found piece of sea glass, beach stone, or shell. Using round wire, explore two fast and easy methods of wrapping glass or stone to form a pendant. You will also learn how to wrap the sea glass or stone so that you can connect them to make a bracelet or necklace.

No previous wire-wrapping experience is required.

All materials will be provided, but you may bring your own sea glass or stones to wrap.

Class Length: ~2 hours

Paula Gregoire-Jones is a jewelry artisan specializing in wire work and other jewelry techniques. Paula moved with her family to Santa Barbara in 1972 and attended graduated from SBCC and UCSB.  In 2011, after retiring from a career in Information Technology, Paula (a lifelong crafter) decided to learn various jewelry making techniques through SBCC’s continuing education. She began showing and selling her work later that year, and continues to participate in many shows every year.

An environmental ethic drives Nina’s handwork, she uses almost no artificial materials and keeps energy consumption very low in creating jewelry and sea glass mobiles. Her work is detailed and classically styled. Notice that plant branches serve as rods in her mobiles. Tiny beads as well as larger bits of stone and shell are placed attractively in the strands. She gathers sea glass personally from as far away as the Straits of Magellan, and as close as Ventura. “Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.” Kahlil Gibran
