Dr. Deacon Ritterbush & Gail Benjamin Lecture: Our Plastic Oceans: Where Plastic Debris Comes From and What Successful Campaigns to Combat it Look Like

According to the June issue of National Geographic labeled “Planet or Plastic” 18 billion tons of plastic end up in the ocean every year. Our oceans are saturated in plastic and as human beings inhabiting this planet WE are responsible for this disaster and only WE can mitigate the damage.

Gail Benjamin, a member of the Pacifica Beach Coalition in Pacifica, CA and owner of Left Coast Sea Glass  will speak about what you can do personally and in your community to begin to mitigate the amount of plastic that you and your community generate.

Dr. Deacon Ritterbush is a lifelong beachcomber who has lived, worked and/or beachcombed throughout North America, the U.K., Europe, and the Pacific Island region. Since 2005, she has been at the forefront of educating people on the Beachcomb experience and is a recognized authority on sea glass, beach pottery and coastal conservation issues.

 An award-winning author, ("A Beachcomber's Odyssey"), Dr. Ritterbush is also the founder of the annual International Beachcombing Conferences as well as Hawai'i's First Sea Glass Festivals.

  She has published or been profiled in scores of print media including the Baltimore Sun, Honolulu Star Bulletin, Real Simple and Marie Claire, and had been the keynote speaker at Canada's Mermaid Tears Festival, Florida's Sea Bean Symposium, Washington's Beachcomb Fun Fair, and the NASGA Sea Glass Festival.

This is her first time to share her knowledge with California audiences.
