Remember the mermaid from our 2015 Carpinteria Sea Glass Festival? Well...we've decided to make MerMascots part of our annual Festival. and asked local graphic artist, Delia Bonfilio, to create a unique, Special Edition Design to commemorate the 2016 Festival. Introducing "Merissa." She represents our ocean artists who are incredibly passionate about the art they create and care so deeply for the environment. Bonfilio is an experienced visual communications designer who moved to Carpinteria from New York City in 2012. She’s also the graphic artist behind the Festival’s logo, website, and marketing materials.
"I didn't want to simply create a pretty picture of a mermaid. There had to be some meaning behind it - which is critical to any project I work on. It just made sense for her to be an artist, surrounded by sea creatures, in a strong and powerful stance. Much like these ocean artists, she a guardian for the environment, she embraces the power of art, and is dedicated to creating beauty in the world."
Bonfilio graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Communication Design and launched Bonfilio Design – a multi-disciplinary visual communications design and marketing consultancy – in 1998 from a small studio in the heart of NYC’s Union Square District. She went on to create the NYC 2000 logo for the City of New York, and brand the Millennium Celebrations that occurred throughout the year – including the famed New Year’s Celebration in Times Square. Since then she's branded events for other notable organizations including the NYC Road Runner's Club, the Big East Conference, and Channel Islands Surfboards. BD's work has also adorned products and promotional materials for many well-known brands and organizations.
